Medicare Reimbursement

Has reimbursement in your local area been affected by local medical review policies related to ultrasound or your employment within an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF)?   If so, you may wish to review local medical review policies of the medical carrier director in your area.

CCI cannot supply or determine policies either federally or locally. Therefore, your direct contact with the organizations listed below is necessary. Please be aware that local carriers may change or update information frequently or the carrier in your area may change.

CCI makes every attempt to keep you updated and requests that you call us if you have an update, CCI posts updates as they are received. CCI's RCIS, RCS, RVS and CCT credentials have been accepted in all Medicare Part B policies to date.  An abridged sample of the policy for vascular ultrasound is below:

"All non-invasive vascular diagnostic studies must be performed by, or under direct supervision of, persons that have demonstrated minimum entry level competency by being credentialed in vascular technology. An example of appropriate certification includes the Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) and the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential. Direct supervision requires the credentialed individual's physical presence in the facility."

To determine additional rulings or policies of Medicare A or Medicare B or to locate a local carrier, you may find the following link helpful. You would go into the intermediary carrier directory, find your carrier in your state, link to their website and then search for cardiovascular, ultrasound, IDTF, or Local Medical Review Policies (LMRP) announcements.

You may also search for Cardiac Catheterization, EKG, Echocardiography or Vascular Ultrasound specifically. Some carriers have e-mail bulletins you may wish to request.
