POLICY: CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCE EXEMPTION
I. PURPOSE:
The CCI Board of Trustees realizes that the education and effort
made to successfully obtain credentials in the field of
Cardiovascular Medicine, Allied Health, Nursing, Radiology and
Respiratory Care require the examination in areas consistent with
CCI's Cardiovascular Science Examination. In addition, the
curriculum requirements of the JRC-CVT and the JRC-DMS cardiac or
vascular only accredited programs meet these content areas.
II. EXEMPTION CRITERIA
Exemption will be granted to professionals from the requirement to
take the Cardiovascular Science Examination with:
1. Current proof of previous credentialing or graduation from a
CAAHEP accredited program.
2. Valid U.S. evaluation of foreign educational transcripts
indicating equivalence to the approved credentials.
3. Verification of your status as "active" from a state licensing
or credentialing agency recognized by CCI at the time of
application.
4. Verification through a state agency to practice in an allied
health field, which requires the successful completion of an
examination in the content areas of the Cardiovascular Science
Examination.
Professionals who have been previously awarded Registry
Credentials through CCI do not require an exemption application
for additional specialty examination.
III. CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCE EXEMPTION PROCEDURES
1. Exemption applications must be received with the required fees
and with current verification of previous credentials.
2. It is the applicant's responsibility to adhere to state laws
regarding the verification of status. Please check with your
regulatory or credentialing agency before copying your license,
certificate or registrant card. Your status must be current with
the agency through which you have been previously credentialed.
This means that a valid license or certificate must state the
current year or a later date.
3. Educational degrees may NOT be used to achieve exemption
status. Exemption is only granted to allied health professionals
who have taken and successfully completed previous Registry or
licensing examinations.
4. Foreign physicians or other professionals must have a valid
U.S. evaluation of transcript.
5. CCI's Board of Trustees reserves the right to deny exemption to
applicants who may have falsified records or who have been found
guilty of unethical practice. Decisions regarding denial of
exemption are final and cannot be appealed.
6. Incomplete exemption applications will be returned to the
applicant.
7. Exemption applications are NOT subject to CCI examination
deadlines. However, applicants who do not obtain exemption prior
to release of Registry results will not receive credentialing
certificates and cannot use the credentials.
8. Applicants who have not been notified of exemption may be
subject to legal action if the Registry credential is used.
9. The status of an exemption application or its approval will not
be provided by phone.
10. All exemption applications require a $100.00 fee. A filing fee
of $50.00 is non-refundable.
11. If you have a credential that is not listed for exemption, the
credential you do have may be listed under "Other" and it will be
reviewed and approved according to CCI's existing exemption
policy.
12. Written notice will be sent to you if qualification is
established.
13. Refunds, minus the filing fee of $50.00, will be made to all
applicants who do not meet exemption criteria.
14. Approval of exemption from the Cardiovascular Science
Examination does not validate an applicant's knowledge of content
areas of the registry examination. Please review exam outlines and
their matrix thoroughly prior to testing.
